THE VIRGO MARS MAN

The Approach

You're bored and fidgety. The party has been long and tedious. If something or someone doesn't come along quickly to spark your interest, you're planning to call it a night. You decide that you'll have one more Sprite and leave. You take your Sprite and go to the patio one last time when you accidentally brush past a man standing in the corner. You say excuse me and under your breath you say, “This is the dullest party ever.” He shrugs and shyly looks away and then he says in a calm voice, “You know soft drinks have a lot of fizz in them and many have caffeine which is definitely not good for your body or your health. Have you ever tasted Fruiter? It contains 90% fruit juices and distilled water.” What? This well coordinated looking gentleman suggests that he replace your beverage. He escorts you back to the bar and orders a Fruiter for you and finds two seats nearby.

He begins to explain to you the benefits of a healthy, stress-free life. He gives you statistics on the number of people who have benefitted from being vegetarians and he adds lots of details about how meditation and living a good life is beneficial to the human body. The conversation drifts to the parts of the body that need to be kept healthy and after that a discussion of recently read books and magazine articles. On and on the conversation goes, as the man analyzes and critiques every book or article he has read and even the ones you've read. You try to stop him from talking by suggesting that the two of you get on the dance floor and “cut a rug.” He rejects that idea quickly by saying that he has two left feet and really doesn't enjoy dancing. But he does suggest that you leave the dull office party and go to a little coffee shop down the street where they are having an all-night poetry jam.
